Carpet & Rugs in Reno & Sparks, NV
Wool loop, cut pile and custom-bound rugs for the rooms meant for bare feet. Chosen in your light, planned with the rest of the floor, fitted by the same people.
Why does carpet still belong in a Reno home?
Because some rooms are meant to be walked barefoot. Hard floors own the kitchen and the hallway, but a bedroom, a nursery, a stair or a media room asks for something quieter. Carpet softens sound, holds warmth and takes the edge off a cold morning in a way no plank can.
That matters more here than most places. On average, Reno's first freeze arrives in mid-September and the last waits until early June, so the furnace runs most of the year and the indoor air runs dry. A wool or well-chosen synthetic carpet is the warmest floor a bedroom can have through that season. The work is choosing the right fiber for the room, and the right rug for the hard floors everywhere else.
What you get with Step With Trish carpet
Carpet is chosen by fiber, construction and pile height before color. It belongs in bedrooms, on stairs, in media rooms and playrooms, not in a mudroom, bath or laundry, and we will say so.
Wool loop and cut pile
Wool is the fiber we reach for first in a bedroom: it holds warmth, hides footprints in a loop, feels dense in a cut pile and wears in rather than out. So you get a floor that ages gracefully, in a texture chosen for how the light falls across it.
Performance fibers for hard-working rooms
Solution-dyed nylon and polyester carry their color right through the fiber, so spills and sun have less to grab. For a kids' room, a media room or a busy stair, they give you carpet's softness with a stain response that forgives, and a pad chosen to match.
Stairs, landings and hallways
Stairs are where carpet earns its keep, in a Spanish Springs two-story as much as an Old Southwest craftsman: quieter, surer underfoot and kinder to knees. We plan the run so the pattern reads straight from the bottom step, wrap or waterfall the nosings on purpose, and carry the carpet onto the landing.
Custom-bound area rugs
Over hardwood, vinyl plank or tile, a bound rug does what wall-to-wall cannot: it defines the seating group, warms the bed's edge and can be lifted or cleaned. We cut it to the furniture plan, not a stock size, and bind the edge to suit the fiber. A rug sized to the furniture rather than the room is the easiest fix for a living room that feels unsettled.
From sample to soft floor in three steps
- Step 01
Consult
We look at the rooms in their own light, ask about pets, allergies, sun and traffic, and measure the stairs and doorways. Then we bring back a few samples, a wool loop, a cut pile, a performance fiber, each chosen for that room rather than a catalogue.
- Step 02
Design
We settle fiber, pile and color, choose the pad to match, and draw the seams where they will not be seen. Transitions to the hardwood or tile beyond the door are planned now, with any rugs, so the whole floor reads as one plan.
- Step 03
Install
Old carpet, pad and tack strip come out, the subfloor is checked and swept, and new pad goes down before the carpet is stretched tight and the seams sealed. Stairs are cut and fitted by hand. We vacuum, take the offcuts and leave the room ready to live in.
What makes a Step With Trish carpet different?
Chosen in your light
Carpet reads differently under a bedroom's north window than under store lighting, so we choose it in the room it will live in, at the hour you use it most. A sample that looks right at four in the afternoon usually is.
The pad is not an afterthought
A carpet is only as comfortable and long-lived as what lies under it. We specify the pad for the fiber, the traffic and the stairs, and say plainly when a thicker pad is wrong, because on stairs it often is.
One plan for the whole floor
The person who helps you choose the carpet also plans its edge against the hardwood in the hall and the rug on the tile beyond. Nothing is handed off between the choosing and the fitting, so every threshold makes sense.
What changes the price of carpet in Reno?
We measure the rooms and stairs, draw the seams, and write one itemized quote for carpet, pad, removal and fitting before any work is scheduled.
- 01
Fiber and construction
Wool sits at the top of the range and polyester near the bottom, with nylon between; a dense cut pile or a patterned loop costs more than a plain one. The fiber is usually the largest line on the quote.
- 02
Square footage and seams
Rooms are measured against the width of the roll, so an awkward plan or a wide room can add a seam or a cut that raises the material count. Fewer, better-placed seams cost more layout time and repay it daily.
- 03
Stairs and landings
Each step is measured, cut and fitted by hand, and a turned or open-sided stair takes longer still. Stairs are priced by the step and their shape, never by square footage alone.
- 04
Removal, pad and rugs
Old carpet removal, subfloor repair, a better pad or a rug cut and bound each show as their own line, so you can see what you are choosing and what you could skip.
Questions we hear about carpet
Is carpet a good choice for homes with pets or allergies?
Yes, with the right fiber and an honest cleaning routine. Solution-dyed performance fibers shrug off most pet accidents when cleaned promptly, and a low, dense pile vacuums more thoroughly than a deep one. For significant allergies, a hard floor with a washable rug is more forgiving, and we will say so.
Is carpet a good choice for Reno's dry climate?
Yes. Carpet does not shrink or gap in dry indoor air the way wood can, and it keeps bedrooms warm through a heating season that runs, on average, from a mid-September first freeze to early June. Dry air does raise static, which fiber choice and anti-static treatments address.
Can new carpet be installed over existing floors?
Not over old carpet, but often over the floor beneath it. Carpet and a fresh pad can go down over a sound plywood or concrete subfloor and, with the right pad, over some hard floors you want to keep. Old carpet, pad and tack strip come out first.
How long does carpet installation take?
A single bedroom is usually a one-day job; a staircase or a whole floor takes longer. The timeline depends on removal, subfloor repair and the number of seams and stairs, so the plan lists the days before we start.
What should a carpet estimate include?
Carpet, pad, removal of the old floor, any subfloor repair, stairs priced by the step, and the fitting, each on its own line. Compare estimates on fiber, pile weight and pad, not the total alone; a lower figure often hides a thinner pad or a lighter carpet.
